CJ's Self Portraits
Me being, um, sexy and uhhh, coool. yeah cool..... hahaha..... yyyeeeeeaahhh.... and me as cupid... A couple of old sketches.
I immediately associate cool with Caroline. They both start with C, and have an O and an L. I sometimes get the two mixed up when speaking "That's the Carolinest thing I've ever seen!"

Random Street Guy
What a gorgeous day for a walk.... in my travels I saw this guy.... an old fart, with a wrinkly turtle-like neck, obviously overdressed... and he knows it too.... he's wearing a heavy over sized winter jacket, and he pulls his winter ski hat to the tip of his knoggin.... looked like he was wearing a giant condom on his head but couldn't quite get it off.... It was hilarious... I actually stopped in my tracks and pulled out my sketchbook to make sure I remembered him. I don't know if he was trying to cover his bald head... I just can't understand why he wouldn't take the ski hat off.... of course I never understand men so that's nothing new... lol.
Does anyone have an explanation for why older men wear hats as high as they can on their heads? Is it to protect the comb over?

The Madness Continues
This is a Classic gouache on cardboard box. ... obviously a timeless masterpiece... lol. My dad brought up the point that he never understood why a cousin of his used to do these gorgeous paintings on the worst material..... but really, I figure I don't have a clue about how to use gouache properly, I'm just messin around and having fun. If I've learned one thing about being an animator is that drawings aren't precious... you can always come up with something better.... so why not just mess around and have some fun on whatever material you find.

The Last Waltz
Dr. John and Joni Mitchell starting out my tribute to The Last Waltz..... I have so much respect for the musicians featured in the film that it's definitely going to be an added challenge to do them justice..... but I'll give it a shot anyways.... what's there to lose? It's all landfill in the end so I might as well experiment while I can.
Thanks for all the comments! Every one of them inspires me to create more and more so a huge sincere THANKS!!!

Ron Wood
No one ROCKS like the Stones that's for sure! I love the old school rock with guys like Van the Man and all the guys in The Last Waltz.... they didn't have to look pretty to sell records. It was about the music not the empty shallow products you see in pop music today. I'm thinking I might do a bit of a tibute to the guys who can really rock. Any requests?
So here's my Ronny Wood.... it's my first ever attempt at doing any full body charicature... I'm not completly happy with all the line quality and I'm not sure if I should add more detail for clothing to make it look more rock... will probably redo him then start on the rest of the band, so any constructive criticism would be awesome!

A Couple Random Characters
A lot of people get caught up in needing to have a particular style.... I get bored too easily though. My most successful sketches tend to come right after I've sat down with 3 or 4 books in front of me (like the Art of Steven Silver or the Hirschfeld's Hollywood books) or done an hour of quick sketches from the Looney Tunes DVDs, then I just sit and tackle my sketchbook for a while and see what gets spiewed out.
I'm a huge fan of the Fairly Odd Parents... the designs are comical, good symbol animation, and I'm definitely a fan of the writing.... I was just messin around here for a character to use in a lipsync.

Cheers to all of you for checking out my blog! I'm Caroline aka CJ or Ceeeeej. I'm a classically trained 2D animator from Eastern Canada. Inspiring work includes Al Hirschfeld, Steven Silver, Looneytunes, Curious George, old school hand drawn animation(can't beat that quality), The Incredibles.... so many more.......
Wishing more studios were Classical 2D.....I miss animating on paper. Pencils don't crash on you.
My buddy Mike "Utah" wanted to be immortalized as a Simpsons character... I found him "asleep" on Canada day weekend in front of the campfire with a beer in his hand.
