While I was waiting for paint to dry I started doodling our overly handsome Producer Marc Tetreau, who has one of the most beautiful moustaches you could ever know.... one thing led to another and boom.... this was created....a Tetreau Barista.

Just thought I should start pumping out something that takes more than a minute to doodle. I'm still a firm believer in the old skool pen/pencil and paper...so much more fun than digital AND they won't crash on you. I started in my sketchbook with some embarrassingly horrible stickmen doodles of studies from a skateboarding book I have....transfered the poses to a random character, cleaned it up in Sketchbook Pro, then had some fun in Photoshop. Summer's coming and I'm super stoked for surfing and skateboard tricks....stay tuned for more X-treme Random doodling.

I've been experimenting with designing some Zombie Chic characters.... Not sure yet what I'll use them for but something is in the works. Kel Berglund and I used one of my zombie girls to design and paint her longboard. It was super fun collaborating with her... My keyboard doesn't have the standard F17 key which apparently is the Auto Animate key... so my resolution is simple... draw a stupid looking pissed off elephantish type creature and hope my scene will be done by the time I'm done drawing it.... and if all else fails, delete this stupid freakin scene from the show.....

APPAAAARENTLY it looks OBVIOUS that I'm single!! Just a little advice for men.... I have to say I work with a pretty extraordinary group of nutbags here at Collideascope. Instead of doing the secret santa, we put the money we would have spent on that and everyone donated to the IWK Children's Hospital. We tallied it up today and we raised over $4000!!!! It's incredible! And since we were going to spend secret santa money on useless toys for each other... all that money is going to buy those kids toys for their play areas to lift their spirits.

First floor and Third floor had a competition to see who could raise the most $.... our floor won, so Get your cameras ready.......cuz as a result MARK CAPELLO(our Art Director/Studio Manager) will be running like a madman down BARRINGTON St in some sort of LADIES SCANDALOUS EVENING WEAR ... This ink sketch is inspired by a pic I found online of Mike MacDougall their Bass Player. He actually looks much nicer than this in person, but the photo had a great angle and a fun evil attitude. I did my thesis in university on how women are portrayed in the media, and how it affects young women in particular. Since then I have been fascinated with how women present themselves and how people respond to their presence. My thesis also dove into eating disorders and other methods women buy into in order to try and fit into a mold that will allow them to feel accepted in our society. I was watching Entertainment Tonight this evening and Vanessa Minnillo had done a story on the way she was treated in NYC’s Madison ave, and her ordeal trying to get a table at a trendy club. She dresses up first as a blonde bombshell then as an over weight Ugly Vanessa. It was definitely an honest eye opener into harsh reality overweight and supposed non-pretty people are looked at in our society. http://etonline.com/celebrities/spotlight/37773/index.html

It’s rare that I will watch tv and be really taken aback by what I saw. The story was quite fascinating actually. The ironic twist is that the story was preceded by a story/advertisement for non-surgical cosmetic treatments. So firstly we have the “If you feel old and ugly go get needles poked in your face or laser treatment, then people won’t make you feel like crap about your looks. If you change your looks you will no doubt feel more accepted by your peers.” And next we have the “be happy with who you are no matter what you look like…… celebrate our differences as beautiful.”

Holy make me puke.

Our society is messed up. We listen to garbage that tells us that we have to dress and look a certain way in order to let others know we are important and amazing people. I love fashion and love dressing up just as much as the next person. But seriously, when I become a parent and have annoying snotty teenagers….. I can’t wait to have even more fun with fashion by pulling out the tapered-legged elastic band pants that I’ll pull up to my boobs with an extremely tacky floral print blouse tucked into those granny pants. The sheer embarrassment my children will feel in my presence will be priceless memorable moments worthy of celebration. Who needs perfection (if there is such a thing) all the time…. Why not just have fun with what you have and still feel amazing.

Sooo apparently I'm not accepted into Brain Academy.... What the F ?!?!??! This nintendo game measures how smart you are... apparently the heavier the brain, the smarter you are.... everyone at the studio got between a 1,000g to a 1,300 gram brain which means they're pretty smart.... I on the other hand scored a 374g brain.... yup that's not a typo 374.......... yeeeeeeahhhhh..... I got a D- and Barlett tells me there's no F grade.

I can't figure out why the game called me stupid..... Barlett probably reprogrammed it to get those results... I always suspected he was jealous of my geniusness... Bastard!! haha..... it couldn't have been a result of Mom dropping me on my head in preschool when she was carrying me on her shoulders....... I'm sure me and Alexander Keiths will figure this out.

These are the two classiest girls I could find that would let me be their best friends.... (and our favorite little midget in behind!) These girls make me laugh my nuts off! I mean seriously.... who changes the Choochoo's sign (a pub in lil old Miramichi, New Brunswick) to say Penis Kareoke! Geniuses they are!

And thanks to my favorite ladies we have a new holiday called Truck Day! March 15th... Write it down! Basically because they got run over by a truck at a crosswalk and lived to tell about it, we celebrate Truck Day every year by taking the day off and celebrating their lives by getting Shmammered! It's the only appropriate thing to do!

The second pic is on the truck day mystery bus tour. Laura Watton and I wanted to get them some truckers hats as presents for not being dead.... our little journey to the salvation army turned out to be quite the adventure.

Saturday (day of Mystery bus tour)
1pm: walk to salvation army..... on the way some random guy opens his door and asks us if we want to come in for a drink.
of course we went in.... free beer.

we tell the boys about truck day and our mission for the hats. One of the guys was wearing the No Guts No Glory hats..... he felt like he had to give us the hat after his buddy kept telling him to give it to us..... Sweeeet sweeet score! It even has mesh back to it!

2pm: We had to get moving so we kept walking... on the way there was a little bar we had never been in before, so naturally it would be rude to just pass it and not check it out....

Because we tipped the bartender, he came over with a free pitcher of beer.... No word of a lie! We told him and the 70 year old man who was hitting on Laura about our mission for truckers hats.... the bartender searched the lost and found but it was all gross hats so we passed. But on the bright side, he told us if we bought one more beer he'd give us another pitcher for free.

4:30pm.. we had to get to Salvation army.... we only had one Glad You're Not Dead Happy Truck day present...... The store had just closed minutes ago.... I knocked on the door and asked her if we could come in and buy a hat...... Pretty sure we scared the poor old lady...... We were stuck..... we only had about an hour until we had to catch the bus for the Mystery bus tour.

We went back to the bar, searched the lost and found... there was nothing good. We went back to the original house that got us started on the beers, and hoped that they had another hat. They were all in Forestry so they definitely did. And by this time they were so hammered they even offered up a Styll Forestry hat with a matching pair of florescent orange suspenders!! Ohhh yeah! Giggidy giggidy!

And do you know what my ladies did.... Oh Yeah! They wore them with pride that night!!!

I saw footage tonight on CNN of haunting unimaginable circumstances that face refugees all around the world... in particular Africa.

- In Congo its legal for soldiers to rape women. Countless victims.... including one women gang raped for 8 straight days and nights by 15 soldiers now is crippled and forced to walk with a cane. Another women gang raped for 3 days and nights straight while her husband and children were forced to watch. In the end her husband was slaughtered by the soldiers.

- Rwandan women repeately victims of rape from the genocide, left with AIDS and children, who will shortly die and leave AIDS orphans behind.

-Images of children with their heads bandaged because they were attacked with Macheties.

-Gangs kidnapping hundreds of children at a time for the last 20 years because they are more vulnable and can be brainwashed and intimidated into becoming killing and raping machines.

-A great grandmother and her bowl of leaves she's crushed up and will boil later to feed dozens of family members.... unfortunately the children don't get enough nutrition from the leaves and between 20 and 30 of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have passed away due to malnutrition.

- An airplane dropping bags of grain to a refugee camp gets rationed out to families..... the rations looked to be the size of a 2L ice cream container... it could be months before another plane makes a drop.

It certainly is harder to relate to circumstances in Africa and we think the Western world seems to be on top of things, abiding by Humanitarian laws. I was shocked to read a few months back that in France a woman dies every 4 days after being beaten by her partner. When women file a report against their husbands, they are more than likely returned to their husbands and welcomed with an even more severe beating than they received in the first place.

It's disheartening and surreal seeing and reading about all these different cases... wondering if there is anything you can do to create change and make a significant difference. I feel overwhelmed with gratitute knowing that I have a healthy family who is always there for me ensuring a have a roof over my head, food in my belly and love in my heart.

Tragically not Hip enough to draw Gord

Alright.... so I stepped away from the last drawing really irritated with what I drew... analyzing the crap out of it, and decided the only thing to do was to start over and do a better Gord Downie because the whole point of drawing him was to do a tribute to The Tragically Hip..... cuz I can't wait to see them again..... and obviously the last drawing looks like no one I've ever seen.... BUT now I'm even more irritated because he still doesn't look like Gord and I can't figure out why...... so if yous guys can tell me where I went wrong that would be totally awesome!! Or better yet if any of yas wanted to do your own Gord's would love to see how you guys approach him. He's freakin hard to draw while he's gimpin out on stage!

Gotta give a shoutout to my saskamatoon boyz who have helped me improve an enormous amount here at Helix. The first two weeks here I thought for sure I'd get canned.... my work was um.... well lets just say it was in a league of its own. A huge thanks to these whackos... I mean Totally Tubular Dudes... and the rest of my crew for keepin me sane (yeah i look real sane here) and helping me get through through the tough days.

Behind me is Superman.... I mean... Chris Hankewich.... or something like that.... it rhymes with sandwich....... I think he's practicing his moves so he can be cast in the sequel. I'm in the middle with my ...um... my sexy pose (that doesn't at all resemble Quasimoto's).... and poor Chris Weime nervously laughing, wondering what went wrong in his life that got him stuck at work on a saturday afternoon with two nutbags......

Much love to the Saskamatoon posse..... can't wait to party with all of yas on Canada day!! wooo wooo!

Left: CJ age 4.... Cute little kid wasn't I with my Horrible bowl cut.... out to go catch some salamanders and worms. Too much fun!

Right: CJ Grade 4......Florescent pink shorts up to my chest with my matching pink NKOTB t-shirt....... and to match I have a dozen florescent elastic bands in my ponytail.... styling for my basketball team.

Bottom...... High School..... Cj develops love handles..... Sister Jen decides it would be cute to name them Bubble and Bobble after the fat blobby Nintendo characters. That Jennie Poo.... she's soooooooooo freakin funny isn't she..... HA HA HEEE HEEEE HO HAA HAAA HO. Luckily we deported her ass to Scotland. True story.

Top: UNB years...... Caroline decides the 5 Year program is more suitable after she discovers that university is one big party full of free beer and all you can eat buffet.

Caroline goes to College for 2 Years, loses the weight, develops an animators hunch, enormous saggy boobs (thank you LaSenza for saving my girls) and literally works her ass off to oblivion. .... which brings us now to the Present Day Hungry Bum Blues.... as seen in my previous post.

What's in store for Caroline's Future...... One can only imagine the possibilities......

Scenario 1: Some poor lad knocks up CJ. Unfotunately her super extra ginormous prego boobs suffocate her and she's a gonner.

Scenario 2 (Top): While CJ's friends's asses start doing the inevitable sag to the ground, CJ's love handles move down south and finally form her a butt.

Scenario 3 (Right): After paying 10 years of student loans this starving artist is joyous... although has faded away to nothing.

Scenario 4: After having kids CJ chops her hair, perms it and decides it's stylish to wear her tapered leg pants up to her boobs that hang over your belt. Yeeeeesh..... why do mom's do that!?!?

K so it's no secret that I have the flattest ass in the universe.... I mean it's sexy and all, but seriously it's frickin hard to buy fundies..... I went a little nuts at LaSenza this past weekend only to find out that the size Mediums I bought are a bit saggy... which only leads to major wedgies. It's not like a size small will ever fit a girl who can polish off a 2L of ice cream in less than 2 days. This is a major problem people..... What the F am I supposed to do?!?!? Please help!

(Waaay cooler than mine) .... since I kinda had a rotten day I decided it was time to give up on life and explode. The Artblog Challenge has a Secret Life of Elephants topic at the moment..... Was thinking bikini model at first... then I was thinking.... an elephant obsessed with mice..... or better yet... a Mouseketeer...... of course..... you can always rely on Disney for remakes so why not the Sequel to Steamboat Willy or maybe just a remake featuring Elly the Elephant. Hey... it could happen.

Moved to Sydney, Nova Scotia to work on an animated TV series.... should be pretty rad. 7 episodes in 14 weeks.... Great crew, great experience.....

My bro just bought "ME" the CUTEST Chocolate Lab puppy in the whole wide world!! (Maybe not ME per se... but that's just all technicalities)... Leo's got these ginormous cute puppy paws, and some super hero floppy ears that help him fly as he pounces on the toys he chases, and this crazy tongue that just licks the hell out of everyone and every dog in sight no matter how mean the doggy is. He just loves everyone and is always sooo happy! And the bestest part is.... I'm his favorite!

In about 10 hrs or so my bus leaves for Cape Breton... going to work at Helix Digital in Sydney (poor bastards... don't know what they've gotten themselves into... haha). Have to go look for a refridgerator box for shelter though.... as of yet I have no place to stay, and I start on Monday. Haha! Hopefully someone will donate some waterproofing (saran wrap) and some insulation (tin foil). Usually the lucky horseshoe up my butt seems to kick in when I'm in dire need... hopefully it will kick in soon. ....should probably go finish my laundry too and pack. haha!

Just got back from an adventure to Toronto... visit my bro, his fiance, and "MY" chocolate lab puppy! Anyways.... it's a long car ride from Moncton to Toronto... so I started playing with my camera (In case you were wondering... I'm not vein.... I was just a Tard who was bored!) For some reason when I post them on this blog the colours look inverted.... these photos weren't altered in photoshop or anything... just combined in illustrator. I thought these silly pics were cool because I look like a completely different person in each of them.

I wanted to write you to let you know I know your secret. I know you’ve been cutting a deal with the PoPo in order to get your hands on some of that addictive white powder you to mix in with your oh soooo delicious Girl Guide COKE-ies…… Personally I think you’ve been extremely irresponsible with your loyal consumers. I am not saying you should quit selling this product (knowing me I would end up in some rehab facility with no-name cookies that don’t even twist properly). I’m just saying maybe you should take a trip out west, get some of B.C.’s finest herbs and make some Special Brownies. Not only would it tie in brilliantly with your Girl Guide campaign, but it would also give your consumers the choice to start with a gateway dessert rather thank starting them off with the hard stuff. At least then, if they found the addiction to come on too strong, they would have safer and easier product to come down from rather than being blindly trapped by your irresistibly delicious Girl Guide Coke-ies.

Curious George put 3D to SHAME!! What a Phenomenal film! Made me sooo excited to be an animator. While the credits were rolling all the children in the theatre started dancing together in the aisles..... There were about 3 or 4 groups of them.... and I'm thinkin..... this is what it's all about! This is why I animate!

Here's my first attempt at JJ and George.... Not quite convinced I captured Jack Johnson's essence accurately.... he always looks so humble in photos.... but it's a fun pic non the less. ... I'll try again and see what I can come up with.

Had a chat with my Ex-Best friend, my loan officer Tom- who used to give me money during my 7 year career as a student so I could live a lavish lifestyle. According to my Ex-Best friend APPARENTLY I have to pay it back... so in his office we started weighing my options... right now as I sit here an unemployed animator living with my parents (not embarrassing at all .. eeeee) I'm thinking I need to make an ad to be a mail order bride.... find me a sugga daddy so I can forget what the term Starving Artist is.....

.... but then I think about men I've attracted in the past such as these guys who say shit like:

"So it's like pretty cool that I only have to wear diapers some of the time eh?"

"My super religious Dad is going to be so disappointed in me when he finds out what we did last night." "What?!?! The doors and all the first floor windows were locked.... and I called 15 times and no one answered. Had to make sure there wasn't another guy with you, and that you were safe."
"Sorry I haven't called lately. I was in the psych ward the last two weeks."
" ... BUT I was TWO TIME gold medalist at the Special Olympics!!! TWO TIME!!!"

Maybe being single isn't so bad afterall! ... and yes these are all based on real events that happened to me.

I'm considering turning these crappy little thumnails into a funny little comic strip.... Put some time into some decent designs. It's unreal how many strange and bizarre events I've been through with men.... I may as well make some good out of the unlucky situations I've been through.

Cafe Sketches-Suggestions welcomed :)

I've been trying to stay motivated post something new every day.... Here are some cafe sketches I did today. Not very successful but I think it's important to show people your good work as well as your less successful stuff..... really hoping that someone will come along and give me some advice on what works for them when approaching cafe sketches... what they focus on. I find the best way to learn is to show people your crap and they'll tell you how to fix it.

With most of these sketches I was looking at the Tim Horton's drive thru order area.... that way I could see people for a few seconds, study interesting features and move on quick.... build up my speed a bit. Although as you can see.. structure was obviously lost. What I really struggled with was capturing the essence of the character.... there really aren't many sketches there that we can really distinguish a particular personality. I like analyzing my crap crap because it motivates me to go back and try again.

Any suggestions on how you all approach cafe sketches would be very much appreciated.

What a gorgeous day for a walk.... in my travels I saw this guy.... an old fart, with a wrinkly turtle-like neck, obviously overdressed... and he knows it too.... he's wearing a heavy over sized winter jacket, and he pulls his winter ski hat to the tip of his knoggin.... looked like he was wearing a giant condom on his head but couldn't quite get it off.... It was hilarious... I actually stopped in my tracks and pulled out my sketchbook to make sure I remembered him. I don't know if he was trying to cover his bald head... I just can't understand why he wouldn't take the ski hat off.... of course I never understand men so that's nothing new... lol.

Does anyone have an explanation for why older men wear hats as high as they can on their heads? Is it to protect the comb over?
